History of Nepali Cricket

Cricket was introduce in Nepal by Lt. Madan Samsher JBR, youngest son of Maharaja Chandra Samsher JBR. So, in 1946, Cricket Association of Nepal was formed only for the royals.

After democratic movement in 1951, cricket started to become popular among the population. In the year 1961, National Cricket Council decided to promote cricket in Nepal as one of their principles.



In the year 1988, Nepal became the affiliate member of ICC. Nepal has been associate member of ICC since 1996. In that particular year, Nepal played for the first time in ACC Trophy in kualalampur and ranked 4th out of six teams. They played ICC world T20 in Bangladesh in 2014.
